One of many reasons we opposed this year’s state budget is its funding of radical left-wing policies that have no place in a conservative state. Proviso 65.28 is just one example—it requires the Department of Corrections to continue providing hormone therapy to inmates who were receiving it before incarceration. That means South Carolinians are being forced to subsidize gender transitions for convicted criminals.
This isn't just theoretical. A woman in North Charleston—a biological female on hormone therapy to appear as a man—was just arrested for the sexual exploitation of a child, including uploading explicit videos involving a minor (Article Here). Cases like this are exactly why we believe the state should be focused on protecting children, not pushing gender ideology in prisons.
The SC Freedom Caucus has repeatedly filed bills to crack down on child predators and strengthen penalties for those who exploit minors, but House leadership has slow-walked those bills into oblivion. They’ve shown no urgency in advancing commonsense protections for our kids—but plenty of effort in preserving woke priorities buried in the budget.
This is one of many reasons we could not in good conscience support this budget. It reflects a broken set of priorities—one that caters to political correctness rather than the safety, values, and common sense of the people of South Carolina.
" ..... funding of radical left-wing policies that have no place in a conservative state."
As long as actual conservatives continue falling for this false narrative there is no reason to expect any changes/improvements in state and local governments. People need to grasp the simple reality, Republican DOES NOT equal conservative.
Breaking the law has consequences, not rewards or continued discretionary practices. The convict should pay or the State should bill the convict.
