No More Excuses
Supreme Court Upholds Heartbeat Bill; Republicans Must Pass Stronger Pro-Life Legislation
SCFC applauds the decision by the SC Supreme Court that preserves the intent of the Heartbeat Act to prohibit abortion as soon as a heartbeat sound can be heard in the preborn child. We encourage our state law enforcement agencies to fully enforce this law - there are now no more excuses.
While today was a monumental day for the pre-born in South Carolina, it should also serve as a stark reminder that our laws protecting the pre-born are not nearly as strong as they need to be and should be with a supermajority Republican legislature.
Earlier this year, the House Majority Leader, Davey Hiott (Pickens), stated that the House Republican Caucus would not take up pro-life legislation this year because Republicans in the Majority Caucus did not see it as a priority and because they were waiting for the Supreme Court to issue a ruling.
There are no more excuses. The state’s high court has ruled to defend the sanctity of life, and Republicans in the legislature must do the same and pass a life from conception bill immediately.
We urge House and Senate leadership to set this issue as a priority for their respective chambers to be dealt with as soon as possible. During the last week of session, SCFC members offered amendments to the Sine Die Resolution which would allow the legislature to return to session after adjourning to take up pro-life legislation. Sadly, those are efforts were defeated. But we can still offer a similar amendment on May 28th when we return for budget votes, and we encourage our colleagues to vote yes if and when the amendment is proposed.
We must protect life in South Carolina. Call your Representative and Senator and urge them to support pro-life legislation this Session. Find your Representative here!

We've fallen into the trap that time and our perception define life, rather than God's will to create in His image, in an instant, at conception. Every compromise on abortion feeds this perception; thus making it more difficult to "take the next step". For us, it's a "Sophie's Choice", and totally unacceptable, to say that some innocent life can be extinguished, and other innocent life can't be. We are inconsistent, and therefore, weak.
Why must every piece of worthwhile legislation be part of a dance show with one step at a time? I'm still waiting for "Constitutional Carry" to be cleaned up and strengthened. The Uni-party/RINOs make almost no effort to please their voters. They laugh at us as we beg for laws to benefit or protect us. Every one of these self-serving politicians must be primaried. There is no morality or ethics in these so-called Republicans when fighting is necessary to protect innocent unborn babies.
Thanks to the SCFC for your brave efforts.
