Freedom Caucus Again Urges SC Library Association to Leave ALA
No doubt at this point you have heard about the American Library Association and their newly-elected Marxist president, who has made it clear she intends to introduce our kids to all things woke through public libraries. Since June, the South Carolina Freedom Caucus has called on the South Carolina Library Association to leave the American Library Association.
South Carolina School Libraries and the South Carolina State Library have both recently made the right decision and severed ties with the ALA. A big thanks to Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver for leading the charge on getting our school libraries out of the ALA!
But still, the South Carolina Library Association, whose membership includes public libraries across the state, remains a member of this dangerous organization. So far the SCLA has not listened to the voice of a concerned public across South Carolina. This is a serious problem.
In light of other library groups severing ties with the ALA, the members of the SC Freedom Caucus are again calling on the SCLA to chart its own course, and not allow further influence in our libraries from the ALA and its president’s harmful national agenda.
The letter below was sent today by the SCFC to the interim president of the SCLA:
Dear Mr. Epling,
As you have undoubtedly heard, the State Department of Education recently ended its 50 year relationship with the South Carolina Association of School Librarians citing the organizations increasing politicization and lack of discernment for fundamental parental rights. In August, the South Carolina State Library terminated its membership with the American Library Association citing the ALA’s unprofessionalism, tone deafness, and political activism.
Your organization’s previous refusal to leave the ALA increasingly finds you on the wrong side of history.
As we stated in our previous letter, the ALA’s new president is a self-avowed Marxist who advocated for an ALA "that will be socialist in tone." More recently, Ms. Drabinski attended, and spoke to, the Socialism 2023 conference in Chicago. The conference's schedule included topics such as "Kids as Comrades," "Radical Drag Show," "Developing Campaigns to Abolish Police," and "The Politics of Childhood." During her remarks, Ms. Drabinski called for public education and libraries to become a "site of socialist organizing."
Given Ms. Drabinski’s increasingly radical rhetoric and the leftward shift of the ALA, we are once again asking you to terminate your relationship with the American Library Association.
We look forward to your response and a copy of your formal exit letter from this far Left organization hell-bent on indoctrinating students through our libraries.
Very Respectfully,
The South Carolina Freedom Caucus
You can continue helping us put the pressure on the SCLA to protect our kids from indoctrination and leave the ALA! Please email Jimmie Epling at jimmie.epling@darlington-lib.org or call him at (843) 398-4940, and demand that he get our libraries out of the ALA.
For Liberty,
The South Carolina Freedom Caucus
