House Leadership continues to refuse to cut spending—even as South Carolina families are feeling the pinch of inflation and economic uncertainty. Our state government is bloated and out of control. South Carolina has 15 full-time state employees for every 1,000 citizens. In Florida, it’s just 4. That’s not efficient government—that’s bureaucratic bloat.
Last month, the SC Freedom Caucus offered a plan to cut enough waste from the budget to give every South Carolinian a full 1% income tax cut. Instead of letting taxpayers keep more of their own money, House Leadership rejected it and doubled down on bigger government.
This week, they’re pushing H.3832—a bill that would more than triple the taxpayer-funded handouts to woke Hollywood elites. The primary beneficiary of this money is HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones (see parental rating below). Why are South Carolina taxpayers being forced to subsidize smut?
Meanwhile, just days ago, many of these same politicians supported H.4216, a bill that would have raised taxes on most South Carolinians. They claim we can’t afford tax cuts, yet they’re handing over millions to liberal filmmakers.
This is exactly why we’re fighting. The SC Freedom Caucus will continue to stand up for the taxpayer, demand real spending cuts, and call out the broken priorities in Columbia!
I wonder if they're doing all these outrageous things to keep good legislators busy and distracted so that you are not able to focus on other issues. Thanks for all you are doing.
Is South Carolina really a RED STATE? I moved here about 12 years ago because I was being strangled in oh-so-blue New England. Now, I am finding that SC is not much better. At least in New England they (the politicians) let you know you're about to be slammed again. Not so in SC. The RINO/Uni-party tries to hide it. What sneaky little weasels. Why are these people even allowed to run as Republicans? They give away our tax money to smut film makers and foreign auto companies from China (of all places) and Germany. I know there's not a lot of you in the Freedom Caucus, but, please, keep speaking out-- loudly. I fear I may have to move further south to live in a real red state.
