State-of-the-State Response and Rules Fight Update
South Carolina Must Lead on Implementing Trump's Agenda; Leadership and the Establishment Ram Rules Changes Through
State-of-the-State Response:
Last night, the Governor delivered his State-of-the-State address. Our Chairman, Jordan Pace (Berkeley) responded with the SCFC’s vision for South Carolina. Watch below:
Update on Rules Fight:
As we detailed on our social media accounts yesterday, there was a fight in the House yesterday over newly proposed House rules changes.
In the eleventh hour before yesterday’s session start time, the House Rules Committee met to propose new rules. Just a few minutes later, House leadership brought the proposed rules changes to the floor. The Rules Committee did not livestream their meeting, did not take public testimony, and gave members of the House virtually no time to read or process the proposed changes.
In these rules which we have dubbed The Leadership Empowerment Act of 2025, the motion period would be deleted. The motion period is the one tool every legislator possesses to bring bills to the floor and bypass the committee process. In the past 5 years, Republicans and Democrats have killed Save Women Sports (though after 2 years it passed due to immense pressure from grassroots), closed primaries, income tax elimination, parental bill of rights, and more.
Conservatives deserve to represent their constituents and bring forward the legislation they want to see passed into law and have a public debate regarding those issues. House leadership’s new rules are yet another attempt to stifle our ability to move conservative policies.
Members of the Freedom Caucus and the Family Caucus, namely John McCravey (Greenwood), Daniel Gibson (Greenwood) as well as Adam Duncan (Occonee) fought this egregious rules package tooth and nail.
Unfortunately, after offering many amendments to actually increase transparency in the House, the rules package passed as proposed by the Rules Chair, Micah Caskey.
Neither the process nor the resolution were ever about transparency. Intentionally scheduling a committee meeting right before session, not live-streaming the meeting, and not taking public testimony should give pause to any legislator who truly wants to represent their constituents. Yet, almost the entire Republican Caucus voted to pass these rules, many demonstrating their lack of understanding of the resolution from the well.
Regardless, we will continue to fight no matter the attacks they levy at us or petty tactics they use to try to shut us up. We are here to represent the people and fight to implement a South Carolina First agenda aligned with President Trump’s policies.
For liberty,
The South Carolina Freedom Caucus
