Tax "Cuts" Shouldn't Raise Taxes
Proverbs 12:22 - "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight."
Last night,
The House pushed a purported tax “cut” bill through the House which would raise taxes on roughly 25% of the state. While there were good parts of this bill that were improved after the South Carolina Freedom Caucus sounded the alarm on the initial tax proposal which would increase taxes for about 60%-70% of the state, the authors of the bill still couldn’t tell us who the 25% of the state were. Furthermore, SCFC Chairman Jordan Pace as well as other members have offered cuts to state spending which would allow us to get a truer tax cut bill that would not negatively impact tax payers, but House leadership refused to take our solutions.
Due to the rushed nature of this bill, the inability of its authors to explain who the 25% would be that would pay more in taxes, we voted no. During times like these when people are struggling financially, we can’t justify voting to increase taxes for 25% of the state while our government continues to spend too much money on too many wasteful projects.
We will always stand up for the taxpayer regardless of the attacks that come. No taxpayer should see a tax increase when all other options are not first explored and exhausted. House Leadership should have prioritized cutting spending to cut taxes rather than raising taxes on 1 in 4 South Carolinians.
For Liberty,
SCFC
I trust the Freedom Caucus to do the right thing when it comes to fiscal conservatism!
Thank you.
